More price fixing identified by the OFT

    Date issued: 1st October 2009

Following the OFT findings of collusion amongst construction companies there comes another report of collusion amongst recruitment agencies supplying, amongst others, the construction industry!

It seems that established recruitment agencies, some of which are well know in the social housing sector, colluded to cut out a newcomer to the sector who was offering an innovative approach. The OFT report states that the companies operated a boycott of the newcomer, Parc UK, to freeze them out of the market; it also says that they operated to fix target fee rates for the supply of candidates to intermediaries and certain construction companies in the UK.

There were eight companies involved, six of which received fines totalling £39.27M after reductions for 'leniency'. The value of the fines before reductions was £173M in total.
