Co-regulation will be the TSA's approach
Date issued: 4th February 2009
At a conference hosted by Blake Lapthorn in Southampton on 4th February Peter Marsh, Chief Executive of the TSA, said that the TSA would have a co-regulatory approach and will work with Boards to ensure that associations are properly managed. He also explained that he did not anticipate that the new standards that will build on the National Conversation's outcomes will be a prescriptive one size fits all. He anticipates that standards may vary depending on local priorities. He went on to explain that he was not a fan of a series of statistical standards that must be met by all associations (and in due course, hopefully local authorities) in an uniform manner. Mr Marsh also clarified that although the Housing and Regeneration Act 2008 allows Registered Providers (the new name for RSLs) to be profit making organisations it would not permit profits to be made from its business as an RP.
